‘Lupin III’ Franchise Gets New TV Special

A Nico live broadcast of Lupin III franchise on Thursday has announced a new TV special. The special is slated for next Winter via Nihon TV. Two screenshots have also been revealed, including Lupin in black coat. TMS Entertainment returns to produce the TV special.

A new soundtrack including the ending theme song for the special titled “Kalanchoe Forever!” will be released on January 16, 2019. Miyuki Sawashiro, the seiyuu for Fujiko Mine, will be performing the song. Sawashiro has commented that comparing to the sexy ending in Part 5, the new ending will be calm and kind, with cute lyric. The franchise will also be featured at Universal Studios Japan for the first half of next year.

Lupin III franchise is based on the manga of the same title by Monkey Punch. Tokyo Movie Shinsha adapted the manga into three TV series, which the last ended on 1985. The series returned in 2012 with 13-episode Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna series by TMS Entertainment introducing brand new cast group. Telecom Animation Film joined the production in 2015 with 25-episode fourth season that aired in Italy prior to Japan. Telecom Animation Film produced 24-episode fifth season without TMS Entertainment this spring, which took place in Italy. There are also various specials, movies and collaborations produced.
